Democracy is not a spectator sport...

What was witnessed on January 8th, 2026, at the special meeting of the SLBC in Douglas, was meaningful public participation, a requirement of our laws and rules, and the pillar of self-governance. Though long overdue regarding the wind leases on state land and the Pronghorn project as a whole, the overwhelming turnout in person coupled with more than 100 viewing online made clear that we, the public, are engaged.

Testimony came from a diverse range of voices—including students, contractors, energy-industry workers, elected officials, ranchers and many more.  For those that were unable to attend or watch, it is important to know that peaceful, educated, heartfelt public participation made a difference. And most importantly, remember you are not alone. Thousands have signed the petition, came to meetings and/or spread the word through family and friends. Yesterday was inspiring, but there is more to be done.

Thank you again to everyone who has signed, shared, and shown up—this momentum is because of you. At the same time, the fight isn’t over.  We need to keep signing, keep sharing accurate information, and keep showing up—at meetings, in public comment opportunities, and wherever local voices need to be heard.
